Creative Marketing
No one ever became successful by doing what every one else did. It was the person with the point of difference that stood out, the one that took a gamble, the one that dared to non-conform.
Recent design work has seen me create an insert in a conference hand guide for Digital People. This got me thinking about creative ways of promoting ourselves, rather than just saying "we create websites...", and "this is what we can do for you...". This is fine and all, but everyone is doing that. And when you see a whole bunch of these inserts in the same place, they just sort of bleed together and become boring. Any names jump out at you? Maybe, but none that will really capture the imagination.
Anyway, just so happens Smashing Magazine has a great article on creative marketing. This article gives a whole bunch of unique and creative solutions to business marketing. Ideas and creations that really are unique and standout.
Admittedly some of these examples are very expensive to produce, but in their defence, these would be given to those clients you really wanted to create an impression on. They won't replace the trustworthy business card, but a quirky or creative marketing piece may just give you the edge.
I'm thinking paper planes...
